Winterfest is Brigham Young University’s winter performance series in Salt Lake City. From January 22 to March 12, 2022, performing groups from Brigham Young University will entertain audiences at the Conference Center Theater.
Winterfest will feature ten performing groups. These groups include the award-winning men’s a capella group Vocal Point, which combines harmony, humor, and remarkable vocal percussion in a high-energy a cappella show. Vocal Point’s equally talented female counterpart, Noteworthy, will also perform. Noteworthy is a nine-women a cappella group that delivers perfect harmony, a fun stage presence, and unique musical arrangements. The powerhouse females will perform a varied repertoire including pop, rock, jazz, hip-hop, and spiritual genres.
The Ballroom Dance Company will present Come Alive, a performance of innovative choreography that is compelling, engaging, and just plain fun. A hallmark of their show includes the performance of their award-winning and internationally acclaimed Ballroom and Latin competition medleys.
Enjoy the Young Ambassadors as they perform Thank You for the Music, a show filled with some of the group’s best stage pieces from their 50-year travels around the world. Since its premiere performance at Expo ’70 in Osaka, Japan, the group has performed in major concert halls, orphanages, government palaces, and hospitals in 68 countries.
BYU’s Chamber Orchestra will present Rossini’s delightful overture to The Barber of Seville, Ginastera’s virtuosic Variaciones Concertantes, and Beethoven’s Symphony no. 7. Comprised of 49 musicians, the Chamber Orchestra is one of the most traveled university orchestras in the world.
Living Legends presents Storytellers, a performance of dances and music celebrating Polynesian, Latin American, and Native American culture that not only excites but also uplift and inspire. Living Legends reminds audiences who they are, where they come from, and who is supporting them through all seasons of life.
The International Folk Dance Ensemble will present Journey, a 90-minute voyage of dance and music that explores the heartbeat of the world’s cultures. Journey entertains with Irish hard shoe, American clogging, Ukrainian hopak, Indian bhangra, and much more.
Contemporary Dance Theatre will present Within Dreams. Inspired by the life of the director, Keely Song. Within Dreams follows the story of a young man named Todd, allowing the audience to join him as he tries to settle his anxiety, build a new life, and learn to dream again through the power of dance.
Theater Ballet will showcase the finest in ballet training from BYU’s Dance Department, performing with strength, skill, and enthusiasm. Their family-friendly classical ballet showcases both classical and new choreography that is graceful, beautiful, and inspiring.
Jazz Legacy’s performance will sweep audiences back in time to the toe-tapping jazz tunes of America in the 1920s. BYU’s Jazz Legacy Band provides a rare opportunity for listeners to enjoy America’s musical heritage. The band members, many of whom have performed professionally, are among BYU’s most talented student musicians.
BYU Living Legends, Theatre Ballet, International Folk Dance Ensemble, Ballroom Dance Company, Young Ambassadors, and Contemporary Dance Theatre originate from the Brigham Young University Department of Dance. Noteworthy and Vocal Point originate from the Performing Arts Management Office, and Jazz Legacy and the Chamber Orchestra originate from the School of Music.
