Extensive renovations to the Washington D.C. Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be completed later this year. Following the renovation, the general public will be invited to tour the temple during an extended open house. The open house is a rare opportunity allowing the public to tour the temple for the first time since it was dedicated in 1974. After the open house, the temple will be rededicated by Church leadership.

The dates for the open house will be announced in a media briefing on Thursday, February 27, 2020, at 10 a.m. EST.

The 160,000-square-foot landmark was originally dedicated in November 1974 and closed for extensive renovation in March 2018. The renovation has involved significant upgrades to the mechanical system, as well as refreshed finishes and furnishings.

The temple serves 123,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. It is considered a sacred space and place of worship by the more than 16 million members of the church worldwide.
