If you thought you worried a lot before you became a dad—just wait. I never knew what true worry was until I became a dad. Sure, I had various situations that made me fearful and apprehensive in my life, but from the minute I had those little souls placed under my stewardship, my worries compounded exponentially. But, so did my joy and sense of purpose.

There is a saying that has gone around for years: “If you want something to get done, give it to a busy person.” I believe that saying to be true, but I also think that saying is cruel. It assumes that since a person is working hard, being responsible, and accomplishing many things, that they can easily handle “just one more thing.” But as the world continues to heap more and more on people's shoulders, it's going to get harder and harder for busy people to cope with the excessive demands.

Over the years, I've noticed that a common reason for not being baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is "my parents would freak out," or "my parents would disown me." There are hundreds of variations on those sentiments, but I think it's safe to say that many people don't officially join the Church because deep down they don't want to disappoint their parents.

When I was about 19 years old, I started to have a bunch of "concerned adults" come up to me on a regular basis and tell me that I needed to change this behavior and that behavior so that I'd be able to go on a mission. You know what? They were exactly right. But at the time I wasn't having any of it.
