Earth Day 2020 looked different for many people who celebrated the holiday from home. Some posted memory-filled pictures from previous trips that praised the wonderful world we live in.
Latter-day Saint videographer Devin Graham, also known as Devinsupertramp, joined in celebrating the beauty of the earth by posting a video with footage his team has filmed over the last 10 years while traveling to over 40 countries and over 25 states, according to a segment by Graham at the end of the video.
The video includes scenes from around the world, including iconic places like the Eiffel Tower in France and Machu Picchu in Peru. Latter-day Saints may also recognize the Laie Hawaii Temple featured in the video.
Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22. According to ChurchofJesusChrist.org, the Church “teaches that God created the earth to provide a place for the human family to learn, progress and improve. . . . The earth and all things on it should be used responsibly to sustain the human family. However, all are stewards—not owners—over this earth and its bounty and will be accountable before God for what they do with His creations.”
In October 2018, Elder Steven E. Snow of the Seventy gave an address called “The Moral Imperative of Environmental Stewardship” in which he discussed that we are all accountable for how we treat the earth.
“[We will] be held accountable for how we treat one another, the community in which we live, and the land that surrounds us, even the earth itself,” Elder Snow said. “That stewardship has never been more urgent. Our generation, more than any other, has the ability to irretrievably change the land.”
