In a new video released by the Church, Drew shares his story about finding strength and comfort through his personal struggles with anxiety, depression, and perfectionism.
The video, which is the newest release in the Church’s His Grace series, touches on Drew’s experience with separation anxiety as a child and his struggles with perfectionism while preparing for his mission in the Missionary Training Center.
“I literally felt like if I wasn’t expending every last bit of energy, pushing myself to the breaking point, that I wasn’t going to be blessed.”
Three weeks after coming home from his mission to tackle his anxiety and mental health issues, Drew was still experiencing the lowest, darkest moments he had ever known. He felt like he was doing everything that was asked of him—reading the scriptures, serving in the temple, praying, trying to keep the commandments—but he found himself losing hope, feeling like no one understood him, and seriously contemplating suicide.
But one night, he was on his knees praying, asking God how He felt about him, and if he was doing the right things or if he was a failure. Drew received an answer that brought him clarity and peace and helped him understand that he was looking in all the wrong places for fulfillment and appreciation.
“No one has the depth of understanding, no one has the depth of love, and no one wants your happiness more than God does.”
