It’s not every day that we get to see our favorite, beloved toys come to life. And while an actual BYU Barbie was released by Mattel in the 1990s, this BYU Barbie doll is a little bit taller, a little more lifelike, and a little more modern—it’s BYU gymnast Rebekah Ripley.
The BYU senior is still small, but about 4 feet and 3 inches taller than Mattel’s standard Barbie dolls. And Ripley perfectly channeled her inner plastic toy at the Super16 Vegas Meet in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 7. Her crowd-favorite performance featured a sample of Aqua’s 1997 hit “Barbie Girl” and seamlessly blended the song's quirky lyrics and Barbie doll–like movements into her high-flying floor routine. People.com called Ripley’s routine “fun” and applauded her ability to “[win] over the crowd with her charm during the routine.”
