A tense moment transpired during a town hall hosted by Mitt Romney today in Wisconsin when an audience member began reading verses from the Book of Mormon and questioned Romney on his stance on interracial relationships. When a man’s hand shot up in the air to ask a question, Romney seemed to take note that he was holding papers, typically a sign that the questioner has a long-winded question they’ve chosen to write out, and as the man began to speak remarked, “I know where this is going. Ha. Ha. Ha.”

When we first started posting materials and resources for those affected by pornography addiction (directly or indirectly), there weren’t many stories or easily-found resources. Over the course of the last three+ years there has been an explosion of work done on behalf of those struggling with pornography / sexual addiction and their loved ones. There are also more and more opportunities for people to volunteer and get involved in helping educate about the harms of pornography addiction.
Proving that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can be faithful, active members of the church and follow a Democratic platform is one of the goals of the newly organized MormonPress, according to co-founder Chrystal Young-Otterstrom.
In my psychology practice, there are times I’m able to work with members of the Church. They come with the same types of problems that non-LDS clients do: anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, parenting issues, etc. However, because of our shared faith I am often able to use a different approach with the Latter-day Saints than with other clients. I remember one particular client I met with years ago. He was having daily panic attacks and had come in to seek help. Among other things, I inquired regarding his personal spiritual practices, including prayer and scripture study. He said he prayed most days but rarely read from the scriptures. We talked about many other things that day, but I left him with the assignment to study the scriptures daily, focusing on those passages that promised peace.
One of the hardest commands the Lord gives us in the scriptures is one we don’t often think of: “be not weary in well-doing, for you are laying the foundation of a great work” (D&C 64:33-34). But what happens if you are weary? What happens if you are exhausted, burned out, over-stretched, and just need a break?
