During his surprise visit to SVU, Elder Dallin H. Oaks joined Sister Kristen Oaks on stage, sharing his personal daily routine that allows him to stay connected to the Spirit. During the address, he admitted, "Kristen is the enforcement mechanism for family prayer . . . it is not at all unusual for her to chase me down the hall after I've gone out the door and summon me back to have family prayer. It's not that I don't value it, it's just that I have been praying and studying all morning and I'm susceptible to forget it."

MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell apologized Wednesday night for inaccurate comments he made a week earlier about the origins of the Mormon church. “I am truly sorry if I said something inaccurate about Joseph Smith, and I am happy to provide time on this show to a Church of Latter Day Saints spokesman to correct any inaccuracy,” he said on The Last Word, before adding “I just wish I could take those words back.” The words in question were spoken on April 3, in the middle of a monologue about Mitt Romney’s claim that President Barack Obama was trying to “establish a religion in America known as secularism.” O’Donnell brought up the Mormon religion’s origins to make the point that Romney, while attacking the beliefs of Obama, was vulnerable on the same score. “Religiously, Mitt Romney lives in the glass house of American politics,” he said. O’Donnell also said the following:

When I was about 5 years old, someone gave me a small, iridescent butterfly pin with hinged wings that formed a tiny clasp. I loved how it held securely to my shirt so it would never get lost. Most Americans are a bit gun-shy when it comes to talking about faith and politics. As the landmark election of President Obama in 2008 presented an important opportunity to discuss race in America, this year presents another important opportunity: to improve the quality of our national conversation on religion, as America contemplates the presidential candidacy of Mitt Romney.
