Harmony historic site to be memorialized as plans take shape

While Church members generally commemorate each May the restoration of the priesthood, the precise location where John the Baptist appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery in 1829 and conferred upon them the Aaronic Priesthood has remained somewhat nebulous — that is, until recently. Researchers and historians have come closer to pinpointing the spot, to the point where the First Presidency has approved a concept for a Church historic site at the location near the Susquehanna River in what was once Harmony, a small township in Pennsylvania adjacent to its northeastern border with New York.

Hashtags for LDS General Conference

Social media users often categorize their posts by using hashtags, which are words prefixed with a hash (#) sign. These subject tags can be searched on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Flickr, and Tumblr to find information about a given topic. For example, #ldsconf is a hashtag commonly used when sharing information about LDS General Conference. #LDS and #Mormon are common hashtags for general information about the Church.

Church offers online support for 2013 children, youth and adult curriculum

In 2013, children will begin new courses of study in Primary; youth will be introduced to new curriculum in Aaronic Priesthood and Young Women classes, as well as in Sunday School; and adults will move on to new subjects in Melchizedek Priesthood, Relief Society, and Sunday School. On LDS.org, individuals can find many materials to support them in their gospel studies during 2013. (Many of these resources are also available at store.lds.org.)

Jennifer Lane: Temples—Orienting Our Souls to Christ

A 2020 First Presidency Message reads, “The sacred teachings, promises, and ceremonies of the temple are of ancient origin, and point God’s children to Him as they make further covenants and learn more about His plan, including the role of the Savior Jesus Christ.” Learning more about God’s plan and the role of a Savior in that plan are things that all of us desire but religious rituals can be difficult to understand and the prospect of wearing sacred temple garments may cause apprehension. But the temple carries with it great promises from God and on this week’s episode, we discuss the many blessings that are available to us as we choose to make promises with Him.

International rugby legend joins Mormon Church

A New Zealand rugby legend has joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jonah Lomu, a 37-year-old who played for the “All Blacks” rugby team, along with his wife, Nadene, joined the LDS Church earlier this year. The couple was recently featured in the New Zealand Herald and NZcity.co.nz for speaking at a church-sponsored devotional last summer.

The ritual also has layers of meaning in how it is prepared, blessed, and passed by the Aaronic priesthood holders in the ward.
