BYU study: Profanity in TV and video games linked to teen aggression

While it’s been long established that watching violent scenes increases aggression levels, a new study in the medical journal Pediatrics suggests that profanity in the media may have a similar effect. Pediatrics is the top-ranked journal in its field and among the top 2 percent most-cited scientific and medical journals in the world. The study appears to be the first to examine the impact of profanity in the media, which sounds surprising considering how central language is to movie and TV ratings.

5 Unforgettable Pioneer Day Concert Moments

The Pioneer Day Concert 2014, “A Summer Celebration of Song” debuts tonight and continues tomorrow. Tickets for the two performances are distributed but you can still be a part of the concert featuring Broadway and film star Santino Fontana. Standby seating will be available both Friday and Saturday. Hundreds of standbys are usually seated at Choir concerts and patrons are encouraged to come. Romney and the Mormon factor

Mitt Romney has a persisting Mormon problem. Less certain is whether this is limited to the Republican primaries or if it’s a general election worry, too. “This nomination would be in the bag if it weren’t for the Mormon factor,” says John Geer, a professor of political science at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee who works on the intersection of religion and politics.

Five years ago I would have mentally tsk-tsk-ed and thought about how inappropriate it is to feed children in the chapel.
