Recently, President Henry B. Eyring and Elder Neil L. Andersen traveled to New Zealand to participate in a special dedication.
If you haven't thought of ideas to participate in the Church's 2017 #LighttheWorld initiative, you're not too late. This 25-days-of-service campaign doesn't officially start until this Friday, December 1.
I spend a lot of time on the computer, and I do all right until I have to figure out how the machine was put together and what makes it work. The truth is, I can’t tell a hard drive from a happy meal. When I have to install stuff or hook up stuff or figure out stuff, I find myself in serious distress. But there are those for whom the whole process is simple. Fortunately, two of them are my sons. I don’t use my brain to make computers work; I use it to remember the phone numbers of people who know how to make computers work.
One of the most prominent displays on BYU–Hawaii’s Laie campus is the large tile mosaic showcasing an American flag-raising ceremony on February 7, 1921, attended by then Elder David O. McKay and Hugh J. Cannon. The two were on assignment from the First Presidency to visit Church members throughout the world when they stopped in Laie. It was at this flag-raising ceremony that Elder McKay, then of the Quorum of the Twelve and Church President from 1951 to 1970, saw an institution of higher learning that would bring students together from all across the globe and then send them back as learners, leaders, and builders in their respective countries. On Saturday, February 16, against the backdrop of this mosaic in Laie, another flag-raising ceremony took place—this time with representatives from 68 countries each hoisting their banners around the historic flag circle at BYU–Hawaii.
“It was one of those mornings,” I said to my mom the other day when she called. She knew exactly what I meant. She had had plenty of hard mornings raising her five children. You know, those days where you wish you could just crawl back in bed and start over.
All through high school, the first years of college and his mission, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland planned to be a physician. But somewhere along the way, he changed his mind and became a teacher. As part of his message during a dinner in conjunction with the spring meeting for Collegium Aesculapium, Elder Holland spoke about what teachers and physicians have in common.
LDS artists Nadia Khristean and Madilyn Paige teamed up to sing a powerful and moving cover of Sara Bareilles's "Brave" set to images of children who are fighting cancer to help raise awareness and funding for new cancer treatments. "All of these kids are such warriors!" Khristean writes on YouTube. "And they deserve to have treatments that will fight as hard as they are fighting."
Stuffing is a fairly recent favorite of mine. Previously I dismissed it as soggy and weird, but in the past few Thanksgivings, I’ve come to appreciate the delicious marriage of bread and herbs.
These videos are made by LDS brothers from stories told by their children and acted out by themselves and their adult counterparts.
