Mormons are weirdly good at many activities, such as pioneering, proselyting, and perfecting Jello… but they dominate YouTube too?

By learning some basic and needful skills, you can become your own best resource in an emergency situation. Keep in mind that not all emergencies are major natural disasters.

Jeni and I took Elder Bluth to the Bessemer Stake Center for an early morning Sacrament Meeting for the volunteer works who have been helping this past weekend on Sunday morning (May 8). Nearly 2000 Latter-day Saint volunteers arrived in the state on Friday and worked all day Saturday and most of Sunday as part of the Church's relief effort. Several command centers were set up to coordinate the effort. The Bessemer Stake Center was one of those command center. Elder Bluth presided over a short sacrament meeting in the building, beginning at 7:00 am. Once the meeting ended, the volunteers headed out to complete their efforts. Another service weekend has been planned for next weekend. During the week, many local Latter-day Saints (including missionaries) helped in specific areas. A lot of media attention has been directed to places like Tuscaloosa, so some of our effort has focused on other areas where no help has been forthcoming.

We are in Bali, Indonesia, as we write this column, and while we love so many things about Bali, parts of its culture are distastefully male-dominated. It's causing us to appreciate our own ever-more-equal-but-still-a-long-way-to-go American culture.

With a request from FamilySearch that asked people to share their own Easter traditions, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints responded and shared their personal experiences.

Rendering service is one of the hallmarks of a true disciple of Jesus Christ. The Savior taught, “And whosever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:44-45).There are many ways that one can render service but the Internet offers some unique advantages. “Using the Internet for service is a great experience,” said Jayson Seegmiller, senior advisor for the Church. “There are ways to serve that were not possible before. Vineyard.lds.org brings many Church-sponsored service options under one roof so people can choose something they enjoy and that fits their schedule.”
