Out of all of the things President Russell M. Nelson is known for, his love for the youth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints could be considered high on the list. In fact, the prophet hasn’t been shy about challenging the youth of the Church at every opportunity. He has even made enlisting the youth high priority.
Few things are more damning for a professional sports organization than identifying, drafting and signing a player, only to release or trade him, then watching him flourish on another team or in a different system. That's part of the phenomenon of Linsanity in New York. Jeremy Lin went undrafted out of Harvard yet passed through the camps and rosters of the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets before becoming a star in the Big Apple. There's a long list of athletes who didn't flourish until their second or third team.
Years ago, I had the great blessing of having close contact with a dear friend who was passionate about the doctrine of the temple. This friend knew the scriptures and Old Testament history very well, and she treasured opportunities to learn and teach about the temple. While she wasn’t one to just give away sacred answers, she did share resources, information, and tips, based on her experience, on how to engage the temple in a spirit of earnest seeking.
“Honestly, I just love how you…you…” I couldn’t quite think of what it was about my friend that I was trying to describe, until finally it just came out. “You live so unapologetically! But a new device created by BYU students may help parents rest easier while their baby sleeps. Student innovator Jacob Colvin and his team created a baby monitor that straps around an infant’s foot and uses pulse oximetry to monitor the heart rate and blood-oxygen levels. If the infant stops breathing or has a significant change in heart rate the monitor will notify parents by alerting them on their smart phone.

This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about pain and suffering. I’ve written about this topic before but this week, it kept coming up in the things I was reading and studying—so here we are again.
I remember riding in the back of a cramped truck through the dirty streets of Santiago, Chile, en route to my very first general conference as a full-time missionary. As we navigated the small, crowded roads on our way to the local Stake Center, one senior missionary clicked on the radio which began playing a Tabernacle Choir CD. Involuntarily and instantly, I was flooded with nostalgic images and emotions of general conference back home in Idaho. I couldn’t help but wonder what my family was doing right at that very moment as they and I prepared for the same marvelous event, at the same exact moment, but in entirely different hemispheres.
A few years ago, a Harvard University professor contacted Wade Sperry, an agricultural specialist in the Church’s welfare department.
