You’ve been quite open about your Mormon faith — you’ve even drawn an adaptation of The Book of Mormon. Had you always been part of the faith, or did you arrive at it later as part of that existential search for meaning that you mentioned? Do your beliefs inform Frank? MA: That also was subconscious. Brown would kill a man for a street taco and a Diet Mountain Dew, extra ice. You will always find Peanut M&M’s in her voluminous purse, along with enough hair and makeup supplies to ready a professional theater group. Her gift of faith has been an anchor to her in the many hardships she has faced. The most true thing Brown knows is that the Holy Ghost speaks to us and lets us know what is right and what is wrong.

With heightened interest in all things Mormon these days and construction of a temple here expected to start this year, Eagles coach Andy Reid hosted a community symposium Sunday night to field questions on just "Who are the Mormons?" At a panel discussion at the Broomall meetinghouse of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Reid said that there has been an "unprecedented increase in curiosity about Mormons," which has "opened a lot of misconceptions about Mormonism." He later introduced another speaker who addressed some of those misconceptions.

When I was very young, my parents planted a magnolia tree in our yard, in hopes of my having magnolias at my wedding. Plans for my future wedding also came up when I was 16 years old. Daddy arrived home from a church meeting with a rolled-up drawing of the soon-to-be Methodist church building. He unrolled the plans and pointed with pleasure to the chapel, saying, “Look, Neill, the new church will have a center aisle, instead of the side aisle of our church now, so at your wedding, I can walk you down the center of the sanctuary!” That anticipation held a particular poignancy since I was the only daughter in a family with six sons. I expected that trip down the church aisle and planned on it. Those expectations vanished like the dew of a Louisiana morning when I took an eternal step and entered the waters of baptism in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
