While Nephi was growing up in Jerusalem, he did not know where the Lord would lead him. He grew and learned; he watched and listened. Yet later, when a dangerous task was placed before him, with his father-prophet waiting for his reply, Nephi was able to respond, “I will go and do the thing which the Lord hath commanded…” (1 Nephi 3:7). What had Nephi been taught that made it possible for him to respond in such a way?

The following is an excerpt from Elder John H. Groberg’s book Fire of Faith, which details his experiences with his family as he served as a mission president in Tonga. During his service, Elder Groberg helped plan a jubilee celebration for the Saints in Tonga and promised the missionaries that, leading up to the jubilee, 500 people would be baptized into the Church in one month. The number seemed impossible. In 1966, the total number of members baptized into the Church for the entire year was 604. In 1967, the number rose to 833, but Elder Groberg understood the Lord was working miracles to move His work forward in Tonga. Below is one of those miracles that helped bring 507 people into the Church in one month in Tonga.

Ever since the beginning of humanity we have been doing Missionary Work. Throughout the Old Testament it is filled with Prophets leaving the comforts of their homes to tell people there was something greater. It is a commandment given directly and plainly by our Master, Jesus Christ when He said “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” It continued on when Joseph and the faithful Saints left their families and homes to share something that was worth leaving family over.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following statement Sunday, August 13, 2017:
Let’s face it, not every missionary will end up in Brazil and have the blessing of baptizing 50 beautiful families into the church. Not every member missionary will be able to baptize all his co-workers – and that’s okay. For those who don’t, have faith and trust in the Lord that your efforts will be accepted by Him and turned into something more marvelous than you can imagine.
