I have picked out my son’s outfits almost every day of his three years on this planet. I thought it would be fun to turn the tables and let him pick my outfits out for a few days. How crazy could it be? I like everything in my closet, and I mix and match items all the time. Well, let’s just say it was interesting. And above just being interesting, it was a fun experience to have with my little guy. I also learned a few things from my pint-sized fashionista. Check out Rockwell’s awesome fashion sense:
Joseph Smith once said, “…You don’t know me; you never knew my heart,” and I wonder if deep down, many of the apostles get frustrated with their inability to know, serve, and testify to each to us individually. I wonder if it pains them when their heart is about to burst and they can’t articulate their feelings adequately.
What a heartbreaking but uplifting story shared by the Huffington Post of taking our hardships and using those to help others.
The infatuation with “50 Shades of Grey” is startling proof of where we are at as a society (100 MILLION copies sold??!).
As a part of the "millennial" generation, I read CNN's religion blog post "Why millennials are leaving the church" with great interest. The author explains how churches are trying to appeal to my generation through casual services, pastors in skinny jeans, and coffee shops in the meetinghouses — at the cost of teaching what constitutes the heart of Christianity. With the ongoing cultural wars, pretentiousness, and seeming exclusivity, young people my age are struggling to find Jesus when they go to church. Reading this article made me think carefully about how my faith, the Mormon church, is instituted. While I admit that our church leaders have their own struggles in retaining some who are my age, I think that the Mormon institution solves many of the problems that other millennials experience when attending church.
The proverbial “third rail” issue for a Christian blogger on a Jewish website is Jewish conversion to Christianity. It is one of the few issues that unites practically all Jews, and well-funded organizations (e.g., Jews for Judaism) have been set up to keep Jews from converting. Although many Jews who know me well have asked why a Jew would become a Mormon, I have declined to blog on the subject because I considered it too sensitive. Until now. After more than two years blogging for the Jewish Journal, I’m pretty confident that readers know that my purpose in writing this column is not to convert Jews. A few weeks ago a prominent Jewish leader asked me why Jews decide to become Mormons. I decided to pose a series of questions to my friend Marlena Tanya Muchnick, a well-known Jew-turned-Mormon speaker, author, and researcher.
A few years ago, I was inspired to start keeping a gratitude journal. I had been regularly keeping a journal anyway, but I decided to make gratitude a deliberate part of that daily journal entry. Every day, I would take a moment and list a few things I was thankful for. I would ask myself the question:
