A mother's note: One of the reasons I've never shared this before is because I am fiercely protective of my daughter. I do not want anyone to judge her harshly or see her in a negative light. A traumatic childhood can create issues for nearly any person. She is an amazing young woman. This post is about me and my struggles—not a letter of dissatisfaction or complaint about her. I share these thoughts with her permission.
A child's baptism is one of the most important events in his or her life. These traditions will help emphasize its value and celebrate that decision whether you're a parent, Primary teacher, ward missionary, or anyone else involved.
For many Latter-day Saint parents, one of their greatest desires is to raise their children in the gospel. However, we all have agency and the gift of discernment.
Many years ago, I decided I’d try cooking my very first turkey. It was just a week before Thanksgiving and some good friends of ours were moving and I wanted to give them a great memory and a home cooked Thanksgiving meal. I was mortified to cook my own turkey, I fretted over my mashed potatoes, and I can’t even begin to tell you how I worried over the gravy. Despite my distress, the meal turned out wonderful. I believe its success was because I had three important things. Good ingredients, and a little know-how from my mom, and the right tools for the job.
“Honestly, I just love how you…you…” I couldn’t quite think of what it was about my friend that I was trying to describe, until finally it just came out. “You live so unapologetically! Yes, you are so unapologetically yourself.” It wasn’t until that moment that I could finally put a name to the characteristic that had drawn me to one of my closest friends.
There is a stack of dishes in the sink that I’m really tempted to do. The last few days, I’ve also been ready to grab the weed whacker and tackle the weeds in my front yard. I don’t like going to bed with dishes in my sink, and, well, when weeds start creeping close to my height, it’s hard not to want to whack them. (And it’s not like I don’t have a million other things that need to be done in my home, too.) With apologies to my neighbors for the weeds, and recognition that my family may be bowl-less tomorrow for the morning rush, I’m practicing a little motto I’ve heard before.
Are your hormones dragging, sagging, and nagging?
Despite his incredible success at just 18, Tade Biesinger is going to put his training on hold to serve a mission.
It was 4:50 in the morning, and I had approximately three minutes to eat something before leaving for my very first temple shift. I raced through a dark kitchen on my tiptoes and wolfed down a banana that had been sitting on the table. Worried that I wouldn’t have enough food in me to last throughout the day, or enough patience to eat a second banana, I looked to the slightly squished loaf of Western Family bread on the kitchen counter and felt a glimmer of hope. Bread’s filling, I thought. That should sustain me for awhile, right? Having barely enough time to snarf down a single slice, I ate one and ran.
