I know Mormons are a little different. I don't expect every person everywhere to understand a religion and its culture so well to be experts in everything they say or write.
The night I met him, we stayed up all night just talking. We laughed so hard I was afraid I would wet my pants in front of him. He was 23 and I was 21. It was beyond natural being with this person who was in so many ways just like me, but different enough that I loved learning from him. It was instant that connection. The next time we were together I knew it wouldn’t be the last. Never did something seem so obvious to me than this: he was my soul mate.
I am always bothered by letters to the editor that complain about the influence of the LDS Church in Utah with respect to Utah laws, politics and culture. I find it humorous that so many of my fellow Utahns are bothered by this since I don’t really believe LDS influence in Utah to be out of proportion to the LDS population in Utah.

A friend of mine put this on her Instagram feed yesterday. These sorts of things get posted all the time on social media; all these statements saying that we just don’t have space in our lives for people whom we don’t like. Or who tax us in some way. While I totally get where these statements are coming from—nobody wants to be sucked dry by negativity—I’ve been thinking about this lately and I can’t say that I agree. The more I think about it, actually, the angrier I feel.
