Rachel Wozniak, an eighth grader at Christ the King School here, will speak to fellow graduates about how the school changed her life. This is a theme that was echoed by Elizabeth Condie, another eighth grader, earlier this year at the Endowment Luncheon. They are friends who came from different paths but both say the Milwaukie school prepared them to excel and grow in compassion.

One of the messages that the Book of Mormon sends to us across the years is that parents (particularly fathers) have an obligation to bless their children and to teach their children and to bear testimony to them. The Book of Mormon contains several chapters in which men like Lehi, Alma, Helaman, and Mormon are engaged in this work. When we read such things in this book, we must do more than believe the doctrine: we must follow the example. In fact, we will devote a lesson to this matter lesson #29 when we study Alma 36-39. This present lesson and the next will focus on what seem to be Lehi’s final admonitions to his children. Nephi tells us this of these teachings:

Written for the Church-wide youth theme “Arise and Shine,” this single calls to all of us, young and old, to step forward and upward in representing our Savior every day. Angie is a 38-year-old woman who was referred to our clinic by her personal trainer. She was working out six days a week with him. She has two children under five years old and a busy executive husband (which means she is raising three children, right?). Angie is a stay-at-home mom. She gets up early in the morning, goes to the gym, and gets home in time for her hubby to go to work. The workouts are not helping her to lose weight.
