Lyndsey Howell was born and raised in beautiful Bangor, Northern Ireland, a country divided by religion. Her grandparents converted to the Church in the 1960s and she is thankful for their decision to listen to the missionaries. Despite being the only member of the Church through most of her high school years, she is grateful for the opportunity that gave her to develop and defend her testimony to her peers. She is married to the “world’s best home teacher” after they met at their BYU ward and he faithfully visited her every day with offerings of Diet Coke and an eternity of happiness. They are the parents of five children, and call the Pacific Northwest home. She holds a Bachelor of Music from BYU, and especially loves to share her testimony of the gospel through music. Her family is her greatest passion, and she loves spending time with them, whether it be snow skiing, boating, or snuggling together watching movies, eating good food, and making each other laugh until they cry.

There’s a lot of talk about Mormon missionaries these days. With two former missionaries running for the White House and a Tony Award-winning broadway musical bearing the name of the Latter-day Saint’s Holy Scripture, many have asked, Is this the Year of the Mormon?

In this season of giving, a community has rallied around a Utah County woman who's dealing with immense loss. Her husband suddenly died Friday night, just one day after the birth of their first child. Josh Robison, 24, was a student at BYU and taught at Lone Peak High School's LDS Seminary. His mother said he was enjoying married life and anticipating the birth of his son.

“Why, in my right mind would I ever want to kill myself?” That was my thought as I walked down the dirt streets of Nicargua. I remember getting hit by an avalanche of thoughts telling me to take my own life. It was heavy and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t lift it off of me. “Everyone feels this way, right?” “It will pass.” “I’m not praying enough, I’m not studying efficaciously enough.” “I just have to work harder and be more obedient.” I wasn’t good enough. I mentioned to my dad (who was in prison) in an email the thoughts that I was struggling with and he said that sometimes he felt down too but he just had to keep his chin up and things got better as he pressed forward in faith. Ok dad, if you say so.

During this season, everyone looks for ideas to share the gospel. On December 10, 2011, an Ethiopian friend asked me for a movie depiction of the events in the Americas at Christ’s birth. With him in mind, that evening I pulled out the Church’s Christmas DVD Joy to the World and watched it for the first time.
