In July 2024, Glenn Rawson and Dennis Lyman will take you back in time to the Old West. We will board a bus (and wish it was a wagon train) and start our journey out into the sites and scenes of the Old West. We will drive north toward Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Along the way, we learn about the Gold Road, and the history of the fur trappers and traders—those first white men in the Rocky Mountains. In Jackson we learn the story of Jackson’s outlaw origins and its settlement and development as a modern city clinging to a wild past. And from there into the wild country of the Yellowstone—America’s first national park. Please imagine the mountain sights and scenic vistas that will come before your camera.
We leave the Yellowstone and head across Montana telling the story of Lewis and Clark as we journey toward Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. After discussing Gutzum Borglum and the history of those awe-inspiring monuments, we journey south to Devils Tower and into Wyoming.
In Wyoming we will stand on the ruts of the Oregon Trail and learn of its vital part in opening of the West. We will cross over the Continental Divide and South Pass.
Throughout the tour we stand on the dirt of history and talk about the fur trade, the explorers, the cattlemen and the cowboys, the argonauts of the Gold Rush, the rugged and rowdy riders of the Pony Express, the religious coming wesr for faith, and the restless coming for land and opportunity.
Like good seasoning on a steak, the tour is peppered with history, stories, anecdotes from the past that fire the imagination and always—lots of good humor. Glenn will even demonstrate some of the essential equipment of the old cowboys and trappers.
