'I think my wife's losing it."
That’s what one of my mountain biking buddies said to me a few months ago . . . I asked him what he meant by that. He responded:
“Her moods are just so up and down. She just can’t handle any stress anymore. And she’s always complaining about how tired she is, no matter how much she sleeps. And our romantic life is the pits. I’m really worried about her.”
“Does she have any health issues that have been problems in the past?”
“No, and that’s the mystery. She’s always been healthy and active. I don’t know what’s going on. For the first time in her life, she is seeing some weight gain. She went to our family doctor but he couldn’t find anything. His thinking was just “anxiety.”
I asked, “How’s she sleeping?”
“Terribly. She falls asleep ok, but then wakes up about 3-4 hours later and can’t go back to sleep. That makes her pretty irritable the next day.”
Would you believe that all of these symptoms were related to hormonal imbalances in her body? How do we know that? We ran some simple blood tests to check her hormones (tests that her family doctor doesn’t ever run) and found that she was low in several hormones: progesterone (which gave her “middle-of-the-night” insomnia), thyroid (which set her up for chronic fatigue and irritability), and testosterone (which lowered her sex drive and even caused some depressive episodes).
This patient has progressed well. She has changed her diet slightly. She has the energy to exercise now. We did not give her any drugs. We used bio-identical hormones—the same hormones her body should be making, but isn’t. So, we brought her hormone levels up to the best level for her, and she immediately felt a difference.
Her comment after three weeks on the natural hormones was so very typical of what we hear from women: “I feel like somebody turn the lights back on.” The brain-fog was gone, the energy was back, and she had a much brighter outlook on life.
Hormones can do all that for a woman—and her husband is smiling more, too.
The best step you can take for yourself is to get the proper hormones tested now. At Utah Wellness Institute, we specialize in hormone therapy for women and men. Call us at 801 576 1155 for more information.
