During his general conference message, Elder Ronald A. Rasband told a story of visiting with Latter-day Saints in Takoradi, Ghana, on a memorable Palm Sunday.
Elder Rasband also acknowledged the presence of the Ga Mantse, His Majesty King Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the traditional king of the Ga State in Accra, Ghana, and thanked him for attending general conference. According to the Church’s Africa Newsroom, the Ga Mantse is highly revered and one of the prominent traditional rulers in Ghana.
Latter-day Saint Adjei Nyarko Emmanuel, who currently lives in Accra, Ghana, told LDS Living, “It’s so cool to see a chief from my city invited to general conference. This goes a long way to affirm what was said in the Book of Mormon in 2 Nephi 26:33. The gospel of Jesus Christ is for all. And the fact that he is a chief and not a member but present at general conference adds up to my testimony about the Church. This is Jesus Christ’s church for all His children, even nonmembers.”
In his talk, Elder Rasband shared his love for the Latter-day Saints in Ghana and said that today there are more than 100,000 members of the Church in Ghana.
“I always love it when stories from Ghana are shared at general conference,“ Emmanuel said. “It means a lot to me as a [Latter-day Saint] from Ghana. There are a lot of faithful Saints in Ghana. And it’s so cool to be recognized by an Apostle of the Lord. The Church is growing here in Ghana. And I am proud to be a member.”
Earlier this year, the king visited with Elder Christofferson and the Africa West Area presidency at the area offices adjacent to the Accra temple.
