In the April 2025 general conference, Sister Amy A. Wright spoke about helping children become lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. “Seek inspired ways to help them come to know this is their Church and they have a vital role to play in preparing for the Savior’s return,” she shared.
How can we help prepare our children for the Second Coming and their role in the latter days? Sister Wright suggested:
“We need to infuse the Light of Jesus Christ into every corner of our lives. If we are not testifying to the veracity of His premortal godhood, His divine mission, and His prison-bursting Resurrection in our homes and in every single meeting of this Church, then our messages of love, service, honesty, humility, gratitude, and compassion can become nothing more than a jaunty pep talk of thoughtful living.”
Inspired by Sister Wright’s comments, here are two simple ways to help your children be ready for the Savior’s return.
1. Talk About Him Often
In her talk, one of the first reflection questions Sister Wright posed about helping children come to know the Savior was: “Do they hear testimonies of Jesus Christ and His gospel?”
This simple but powerful focus reminded me of an insight shared by educator and mother of four Katie Wade-Neser on an episode of the All In podcast:
“What if the only expectation that we had for someone who is just starting to teach the gospel in their home is that they say Christ’s name in their home every day? … If you think about that, at the end of a month, your kids have heard you talk about Jesus 30 times. … That’s something you can do in the car. That’s something you can do at bedtime—simple things as you’re pouring a glass of milk.”
As we find more ways to “talk of Christ” in our homes, we can help “our children … know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins” and prepare for His Second Coming (see 2 Nephi 25:26).
2. Link Your Love to His
Sister Wright suggested one easy way to talk about the Savior more is by linking our love to His. She taught: “When we tell our children we love them, are we also telling them that their Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ love them? Our love may comfort and inspire, but Their love can sanctify, exalt, and heal.”
You can also find natural ways to talk about your love for the Savior and testify of His role in your life. For example, look for opportunities to share moments from your life when you have felt His grace and forgiveness. Your personal experiences and testimony can help your children recognize His role in their lives as well.
By helping your children recognize and focus on the Giver “of every good gift,” you can prepare them for His Second Coming and help them truly come to know His role in their lives. As Sister Wright explained:
“This Jesus should not be a fictional Jesus, or a simplistic Jesus, or a bodiless Jesus, or a casual Jesus, or an unknown Jesus, but a glorified, omnipotent, resurrected, exalted, worshipful, powerful Only Begotten Son of God, who is mighty to save.”
