As April 2021 general conference comes to a close, members around the world have been edified and uplifted by the words of Church leaders. Here are 6 announcements that happened during this spring's general conference. 

20 New Temples Announced by President Nelson

In the Sunday afternoon session, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct 20 new temples. According to Newsroom, “this is the second-highest number of temples announced at one time in the history of the Church. At the April 1998 general conference, former Church President Gordon B. Hinckley (1910–2008) announced plans to construct as many as 32 new temples, though he did not list specific locations.” See the locations announced by President Nelson here.

A New Primary General Presidency

In the Saturday afternoon session, a new Primary General Presidency was called. Sister Camille N. Johnson will now serve as Primary General President with Sister Susan H. Porter as First Counselor and Sister Amy Wright as Second Counselor. Find their bios here.

New Members of the Presidency of the Seventy Announced

Effective August 1, 2021, Elders Robert C. Gay and Terence M. Vinson will be released from the Presidency of the Seventy. Elders Paul V. Johnson and S. Mark Palmer were sustained as new members of the Presidency of the Seventy during the Saturday afternoon session.

8 General Authority Seventies Called

Eight new General Authority Seventies received calls during the Saturday afternoon session: Elder Sean Douglas, Elder Michael A. Dunn, Elder Clark G. Gilbert, Elder Patricio M. Giuffra, Elder Alfred Kyungu, Elder Alvin F. Meredith III, Elder Carlos G. Revillo Jr., Elder Vaiangina Sikahema. Read short bios about each new General Authority Seventy.

77 New Area Seventies

Elder D. Todd Christofferson read the names of 77 new Area Seventies during the Thursday general conference leadership meeting. Short bios of each new Area Seventy are available here. President Dallin H. Oaks called for a sustaining vote of the new Area Seventies during the Saturday afternoon session.

The 2020 Statistical Report

Like many aspects of last year, the statistical report is a bit different from previous years as numbers reflect decreases in new converts and full-time missionaries. Membership increased by just under 100,000, putting total Church membership at 16,663,663. See the full statistical report.
