The ‘Lamb of God’ composer calls Peter and Judas ‘interesting foils’ of each other. Here’s why

LDS Living - We weren’t there in the Garden of Gethsemane and we weren’t there by the Garden Tomb when the Savior rose again. We also weren’t present when the Father and the Son appeared to the boy Joseph Smith or when key characters from Church history met each other for the first time. We have studied these stories and heard them countless times, so it may be easy for us to feel like we know exactly what happened, why people reacted the way they did, or made the choices they did. But there is so much we don’t know.  As Casey Elliott said...

Dwyane Wade’s stylist started reading the Book of Mormon to prove people wrong. Here’s how it ended up changing her life

I'm fairly confident a few words have risen in popularity over the last year: unprecedented, uncertainty, and unpredictability. Perhaps that’s why I instantly gravitated toward a word in Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf’s talk. Like these other words, it also begins with an “un” prefix. The difference though is this word has an element of hope attached to it. The word? Unimaginable. Just look at some of...

Why Emma Smith didn’t let the destruction of her first hymn book stop her

Jennifer Reeder, excerpted from "First: The Life and Faith of Emma Smith" - Gathering, selecting, and editing hymns was not a typical project for women in the nineteenth century. That did not stop Emma, a visionary woman in her own sense of the word. 1 She had been promised in her 1830 revelation: “Thy time shall be given to writing, and to learning much.” 2 She probably gathered hymns from her hometown newspaper as well as other papers and denominational hymnals. 3 The process, like so many other endeavors in her life, would ebb and flow with loss and compensation, requiring more than five years to produce. Two years after the 1830 revelation, on...

Have we lost our awareness of what it means to be a chosen people? Scholar Robert Millet weighs in

Robert L. Millet - In recent years, our beloved prophet, President Russell M. Why do pandemics come and what is God’s role in them? Church historians discuss the topic

Matthew J. Grow and Matthew C. Godfrey, excerpted from “Know Brother Joseph” - Pandemics perplex. Long after the anxiety has receded, the suffering has subsided, and the dead have been buried, troubling questions remain. Epidemic disease often seems to strike indiscriminately, taking the young and the old, the healthy and the vulnerable, men and women, the righteous and the wicked. “Where is God in a pandemic?” asked a Jesuit priest in a New York Times editorial in late March 2020 as COVID-19 bore down upon the city. “The honest answer,” wrote Father James Martin, “is: We don’t know.” But he believed that Christians and non-Christians alike could find solace in the example of Jesus...
