The public is invited to visit the newly renovated Memphis Tennessee Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The First Presidency of the Church has announced that the open house will begin on Saturday, April 13 and runs through Saturday, April 20, 2019, excluding Sunday, April 14.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the rededication of the Memphis Tennessee Temple on Sunday, May 5, 2019. Attendance to the session will be by invitation. The rededication will not be broadcast.
The temple was originally dedicated April 23, 2000, by President James E. Faust, then second counselor in the First Presidency of the Church. Latter-day Saints in Memphis; greater Little Rock area; Searcy, Arkansas; and Tupelo, Mississippi, are served by the temple.
Temples differ from meetinghouses or chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. Temples are considered "houses of the Lord" where Christ's teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. Inside the temple, members learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to serve God and their fellow man.
