Church announces the passing of Elder Dean M. Davies after battle with cancer

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following statement Wednesday morning:

With tender feelings, we announce that Elder Dean M. Davies of the Seventy died after an extended battle with cancer Tuesday night in North Salt Lake, Utah. He was 69.

Elder Davies is survived by his wife, Darla, their five children and 17 grandchildren.

Elder Davies was called to be a General Authority Seventy at the October 2020 general conference. Prior to that, he served as a counselor in the Presiding Bishopric for eight years (2012 to 2015 as Second Counselor and 2015 to 2020 as First Counselor).

Before his nine years of full-time Church service, Elder Davies worked as managing director of the Church’s Special Projects Department. He oversaw special purpose real estate, temple design and temple construction. He also worked in the real estate investment, construction and management industries. He was educated at Brigham Young University (bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics). He also completed advanced executive programs at Stanford and Northwestern Universities.

The Salt Lake City native’s other volunteer Church services included time as president of the Puerto Rico San Juan Mission, mission president’s counselor, stake president, stake president’s counselor, stake executive secretary, high councilor, service in several bishoprics and a full-time missionary in the Uruguay/Paraguay Mission.

Arrangements for Elder Davies’ funeral are being made.
