Lesson

When Heavenly Father sent us to earth, He told us that we would need to keep all of His commandments in order to return to Him. But He knew that life would be hard and we would all make mistakes. Because He loves us, He has done everything He can to help us return to Him.

Heavenly Father sent Jesus to earth to pay the price for our sins. In John 3:16, we learn, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Jesus suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane and then later died on the cross at Calvary so that we can repent. This is called the Atonement. Through the Atonement, everyone on earth, regardless of the sins they have committed, can be washed clean from sin if they repent. This is Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ’s greatest gift to us.

What is the Atonement? Who is the Atonement for?
