From ‘A Christmas Story’ to ‘The Santa Clause 3’: These 8 movies include songs from The Tabernacle Choir

Did you know that the Tabernacle Choir recordings and performances have been included in some major Hollywood films? From A Christmas Story to Madagascar, here are a few movies that include tracks from the Tabernacle Choir.

1. Evan Almighty, “This Land Is Your Land”

In the popular comedy Evan Almighty, Steve Carell plays an average middle-aged man who lives an average life. That is until he is instructed by God to build a boat and assemble the animals of the world, just like Noah. The Tabernacle Choir can be heard singing “This Land is Your Land” during this film. Listen to the Tabernacle Choir perform “This Land Is Your Land” below.


2. Deck the Halls, “Joy to the World"

In the humorous 2006 Christmas movie Deck the Halls—which shares the story of two neighbors trying to outdo each other with their holiday light displays—the Tabernacle Choir’s arrangement of “Joy to the World” can be heard towards the end of the movie.

3. The Santa Clause 3, “The Hallelujah Chorus"

In The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, Scott Calvin continues his adventures as Santa in this heartwarming Christmas sequel that takes place at the North Pole. Later in the movie, the Tabernacle Choir can be heard singing the “Hallelujah Chorus.” Listen to the Tabernacle Choir sing the “Hallelujah Chorus” below!


4. Madagascar, “Born Free”

Madagascar features the lives of four zoo animals as they end up stranded on the island of Madagascar. During the movie, “Born Free,” sung by the Tabernacle Choir, plays during a comical scene. Listen to the Choir’s rendition in the player below.


5. The Stepford Wives, “The Star-Spangled Banner”

In this science-fiction comedy movie, Nicole Kidman and Matthew Broderick star as Joanna and Walter Eberhart in The Stepford Wives. The couple moves their family from Manhattan to a Connecticut suburb, but things aren’t all what they seem. During the movie, the Tabernacle Choir can be heard singing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Listen to the Tabernacle Choir perform it below:


6. Nixon, “Shenandoah”

Anthony Hopkins stars in Nixon, the 1995 movie about former U.S. president Richard Nixon. At the very end of the movie, after the end credits begin to play, the Tabernacle Choir’s rendition of “Shenandoah” can be heard. Listen to the Tabernacle Choir sing “Shenandoah” below!


7. A Christmas Story, “Silent Night"

Did you know the classic Christmas movie A Christmas Story plays a song sung by “America’s Choir”? Just as the movie ends, the Tabernacle Choir can be heard singing “Silent Night.” Listen to the Choir perform “Silent Night” below.


8.UHF, "Battle Hymn of the Republic"

This 1989 comedy starring “Weird Al” Yankovic features the story of a man who becomes the manager of a public TV station and experiences gags and wild adventures along the way. During the movie, you’ll hear the Tabernacle sing “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Listen to the Choir perform it alongside the West Point Band in the player below.


Bonus:

While this may not be a movie, the Tabernacle Choir made a guest appearance on Touched by an Angel singing “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” This episode features a small town that has the men leaving for military service, and the men choose a hymn to be sung in their honor, a song which the Tabernacle Choir sings to the entire congregation.
