Missionaries Pray, Walk, Knock, and Accept Rejection

At 6:30 a.m., as Mitch Holman and Andrew Johnson roll out of their twin beds in an inexpensive Rapid City apartment, they know it may be another day in which someone yells at them, “Get off my porch!”

Holman, 20, and Johnson, 18, are two of 30 missionaries in Rapid City area who’ve spent recent months in their 2-year missions proselytizing in behalf of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

You’ve seen them, probably had them knock on your front door. They are as neat and clean-cut as Marine honor guards, and they start each day as only the thoroughly religiously committed do: in prayer.
