Elder Argenis Jesus Gonzalez Villarroel, a 24-year-old missionary from Venezuela, died Wednesday, June 22 while serving his mission in the Venezuela Barcelona Mission.

Elder Gonzalez was riding in a taxi transferring to a new area of his mission when the taxi was involved in an accident that killed three passengers. No other missionaries were involved in the accident.

"We are very sad to share the news of the death of one of our missionaries, Elder Argenis Jesus Gonzalez Villarroel, age 24, who died in an auto accident this afternoon," Church spokesman Eric Hawkins said, according to the Deseret News. "Our deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers are with his family and those who knew and loved him. We also pray for the families and loved ones of the other victims in the accident."

Elder Gonzalez had been in the mission field since May 2015. Our prayers are with his family.
