Acclaimed Artists Fund Scholarship Through Auction of 30 Artworks

Salt Lake City, UT: Today, Deseret Book Company announces the launch of their 2014 art scholarship program, which enlists the talents of 30 professional and noted artists to create original works of art. Through the auction of these pieces, the Gospel Vision of the Arts scholarship is funded and provides resources to students training in the creation of inspirational works of art.

Following the 2013 inaugural launch of the Gospel Vision of the Arts scholarship, Deseret Book Company is again joining with inspirational artists in offering new original works of art that are being auctioned through eBay. Last year's scholarship auction provided four deserving art students with $1,500 each.

This year artists were given 5"x5" panels to create their works upon, which were then mounted in handmade frames provided by Art City Frame Company of Springville, Utah. Because of their smaller size, these artworks are not only compelling to a seasoned collector, but allow art appreciators at every level to acquire a piece from their favorite artist.

"There’s little doubt that entertainment can be worthwhile, fun, and exciting. But when it is over, entertainment very often leaves us no better than it found us. Art, on the other hand, does not try to only entertain us. It tries to teach us and stretch us; it can lift our spirits and even make us better," says art concierge for the City Creek Deseret Book, Linda Howard, when discussing why the scholarship was created. All 30 works of art currently hang in her downtown Salt Lake City location until the auction closes on Saturday the 8th of February. The public is invited to view them in person, with the auction taking place through eBay.com.

The scholarship application, list of artists involved, and links to auctions are located at this site. The auction concludes February 8 of this year, but applications for the scholarship will be received through March 28, and the winner(s) announced April 18 of this year.
