Editor’s note: “This week from the pulpit” highlights recent messages by General Authorities, General Officers, and leaders of the Church.

For the first time since COVID-19 began its worldwide spread early last year, an Apostle traveled internationally to address Saints in person. Meanwhile, other leaders used video conferences and social media to teach and minister to members worldwide, encouraging them to prepare for general conference and reminding them that God’s love is extended to all. Here are some of the highlights.

Elder David A. Bednar Addresses Saints in Italy and Germany

Church News reports that Elder David A. Bednar traveled to the Europe Area on Sept. 3–12, becoming the first senior Church leader to travel on an international assignment since last year. And for most of his audience, it was the first time they’d gathered with other members in large-scale groups for instruction in over a year.

Appropriately, Elder Bednar stated, “The opportunity to gather and the power associated with gathering was very evident. We live at a time when there is increasing commotion and chaos in the world, and that will continue.”

Presidents Jean B. Bingham and Camille N. Johnson Meet Virtually with Saints in 11 Countries

Church News also reports that Relief Society General President Jean B. Bingham and Primary General President Camille N. Johnson taught and trained local Relief Society, Primary, and elders quorum presidencies through video conferencing. They even used the technology to visit members virtually in their own homes.

In a Relief Society devotional with 2,000 members from seven countries and regions, President Bingham taught, “Centering thoughts and actions on Jesus Christ will help us find ways to lift others as well as ourselves, and act in a higher and holier way.” She went on to say, “Your potential is unlimited. You remember who you are, why you are here on the earth, and where you want to go, you will be able to accomplish through our Savior Jesus Christ all that you have covenanted to do.”
