For the first time since its founding in 1888, BYU-Idaho has chosen a woman as vice president of the university.

Amy LaBaugh, who previously served as the student development managing director, will replace Kevin Miyasaki, who is retiring after 24 years with the university.

BYU-Idaho's president, Clark Gilbert, made the announcement over an email sent on Tuesday, according to The Daily Universe.

“I deeply admire Amy’s professional understanding of student success, her passion for BYU-Idaho and its mission, and her ability to build the students and leaders she works with,” President Gilbert said in the email.

LaBaugh also shared her excitement to serve in this new position.

“When we’re committed to the Savior—when people are empowered and excited about their work until the end and it gives all students the opportunity to succeed—those are the things that I look to as I’m evaluating how we are doing,” LaBaugh said.
