Hundreds of volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participated in hurricane relief efforts in Pensacola, Florida, over the weekend. Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin on October 9, 2026, as a Category 2 hurricane with wind gusts up to 120 miles per hour. Multiple fatalities were reported, and more than 500,000 people lost power.

“To minister in the homes of those affected by Hurricane Isaias, to see nearly 700 volunteer workers anxiously engaged, and to watch the effectiveness of the Emergency Response Operations Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in caring for those in need—was a manifestation of how the light of Jesus Christ guides us in caring for those in need,” said Elder Kurt F. Scherer, an Area Seventy in the United States Southeast Area.

Volunteers provided nearly 9,800 hours of community service to those in need after the natural disaster. They came from seven stakes or congregations, including the Pensacola Florida Stake, Gulfport Mississippi Stake, Mobile Alabama Stake, Tallahassee Florida Stake, Dothan Alabama Stake, Panama City Florida Stake, and the Hattiesburg Mississippi Stake.
