LDS Living Launches New Monthly Book Club, Live Q&A with Authors

We all want one. A book club. Somewhere where we can share our opinions and feel like intelligent, well-read adults.

But then you notice the laundry pile is creeping out of the closet and on its way down the hall. Or you have to stay late after work. Or your kid forgets their homework. Or life gives you a big "Haha, nope" and everything comes crashing down at once.

Simply put, you just don't have the time to meet face-to-face with people every week to talk about books. You barely have time to squeeze in reading (and sometimes it's more of a skim than a read).

It's okay, you're among friends. Friends who want to do you a solid because you deserve a few minutes of me-time with other bookworms who deserve some me-time.

That's why LDS Living is launching their new book club. We get that you don't have time to drive to other people's houses every week, eat bonbons, and have semi-awkward conversations about what you read (or didn't read). So we're bringing the book club to you.

Every month, we'll pick a book and read it with you. And in case life rolls a tsunami of crazy your way, we'll also post reminders to help you along. And when you come across a cool quote, mark it down because you can post it on our social pages and share what you're learning with the rest of the club. No awkward conversations—unless you want those. In that case, feel free to post those too, maybe?

But the best part is at the end of each month we'll have a live Q&A with the author on Instagram. So if you're a huge (insert Deseret Book author's name here) fan, you'll get to find out all the answers to those burning questions you've always wanted to ask. Pretty cool, right?

Oh, and the book of the month will often come with discounts and special offers! We started last month with a bang with Carol Decker's book Unshattered, and we're thrilled to announce our October Book Club pick: Moroni's Guide to Surviving Turbulent Times by John Bytheway!

This book was chosen by singer/songwriter Madilyn Paige, and we will be featuring both Madilyn and John in our live Q&A on October 31.

The prophet Moroni, who spent at least the last twenty years of his life alone and wandering to avoid being captured and killed, has in the latter days become one of the symbols of our religion. His statue watches over nearly every temple and has been depicted on the cover of millions of copies of the Book of Mormon in dozens of languages. In this book, best-selling author John Bytheway suggests that Moroni's last words were both intensely personal and universally applicable. In the closing chapters of the Book of Mormon we discover a wonderful formula for surviving today's turbulent times. Moroni's topics, and even the sequence in which he shared them, become a strategy for remaining steadfast and true in our day. John suggests that whatever latter-day challenges we face, we can successfully navigate them by "likening Moroni."
