Regardless of Who You Voted for: 5 Scriptures You Need to Read Following the Election

I recently stumbled upon a scripture while scrolling through my newsfeed, of all places. Amidst the political updates and arguments, The Millennial Star simply posted a scripture—one scripture that immediately caused the fears, the complaints, the bickering, and everything else I had just read or felt to melt away.

After this particularly divisive election, I wanted to share with you a few scriptures that bring peace and provide good reminders of how we should act as we begin moving forward and building unity in our nation once again.

Romans 8:38–39

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Ether 2:12

"Behold, this is a choice land, and whatsoever nation shall possess it shall be free from bondage, and from captivity, and from all other nations under heaven, if they will but serve the God of the land, who is Jesus Christ."

Doctrine and Covenants 98: 1–2, 8

"Verily I say unto you my friends, fear not, let your hearts be comforted; yea, rejoice evermore, and in everything give thanks; Waiting patiently on the Lord, for your prayers have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, and are recorded with this seal and testament—the Lord hath sworn and decreed that they shall be granted. . . .

"I, the Lord God, make you free, therefore ye are free indeed; and the law also maketh you free."

3 Nephi 12:24–25

"Go thy way unto thy brother, and first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come unto me with full purpose of heart, and I will receive you. Agree with thine adversary quickly while thou art in the way with him . . ."

Articles of Faith 11–12

"We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

"We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law."
