A couple years ago as it came time for New Year’s goals, I realized that I had made the same goal every year since I was thirteen—I would lose some weight (five pounds or ten or twenty–depending on the year and how much I hated what the scale said). It made for a lot of miserable Januarys and a few miserable Decembers since I’d justify eating extra even if I wasn’t hungry because the food was delicious and available. And throughout the year, I’d continue this pattern—as the seasons changed, when big family events occurred, when I started blaming the dryer for shrinking my clothes–until I realized that I was living my life in two speeds: dieting and preparing to diet.
Some hymns on occasion seem almost to compel the congregation to rise to their feet. Some hymns seem to demand the sonorous peeling of the organ. And some hymns (and you'll have your own preferences here), like Martin Luther's powerful "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" ("Hymns," No. 68), seem to me to call for punctuation, at the end of each line, by a 21-gun cannonade. Whether in English or in German (where we sing three verses), the lines worship God in simple, straightforward, forceful sentences:
My family takes pumpkin pie seriously. Since childhood I can remember no less than 10 pumpkin pies each year (and that's a conservatively low number). We eat it for breakfast starting the day before Thanksgiving, and eat it throughout the day (usually while making more pumpkin pie).
This bilingual group of LDS artists originally called themselves Shine, later changing the name to ELENYI, which means ray of sunlight in Greek. And these girls do bring a ray of sunshine into the bleak winter months with their beautiful voices and inspiring testimonies, saying that, to them, "this song expresses the heart of Christmas!"

With the help of LDS YouTube prankster Stuart Edge, Vocal Point put on an extraordinary surprise performance for a few lucky guests aboard a Polar Express train ride. Every holiday season, the Heber Valley Creeper in Heber, Utah, lets riders participate in a special North Pole Express train ride.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney announced Monday that he is taking the first steps toward a presidential run by forming an exploratory committee.
The nomination of Mitt Romney as the GOP presidential candidate may have brought the Mormon faith into the mainstream, but Utah Republican Senator Orrin Hatch believes the religion still has a long way to go. "People don't think Mormons are Christian," he tells Whispers. "That's totally wrong. [As a Mormon] you can hardly move without hearing the name of Jesus Christ. We're fervent believers in Jesus Christ."
James the Mormon, who topped the iTunes charts last week with his albumI'm not a Rapper, is back in the spotlight with a new rap he created in response to Tyler Glenn's song, "Trash." "[My song] is to anyone who has felt pain..." Curran told ABC 4 News. "No matter who you are, we're all going through something. We're all hurting, but God sees us as treasure, so let's stick together."
All of us were shocked by the tragedy of the Boston Marathon bombing. The news rapidly spread through social networks and became the major subject of discussion — and heartache – within families worldwide. I (April) heard about it 30 minutes before my children got home from school, and, initially, I wasn’t quite sure when (or how) I was going to talk about it with them. During our afternoon snack, however, my 13-year-old checked her Instagram feed and said, “What happened today? Everyone is posting images that say ‘Pray for Boston.’”
