Aburto, second counselor in the general presidency of the Relief Society, recently shared a message on Facebook that reminds us of the unity the World Cup can bring. She also shared a miracle her husband experienced during the 1990 World Cup that teaches us that even while we may feel each game has a lasting impact, our relationship with our Heavenly Father, Savior, and families are truly the only things that will have eternal significance.

When Typhoon Haiyan struck the central Philippine islands on 8 November, more than 10,000 Filipinos sought refuge with 4,000 of their Mormon neighbors in 200 chapels of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Even though several meetinghouses were damaged, all inside were protected. The video below shows how these sturdy structures now shelter hundreds of displaced families while also providing humanitarian support to those in need in dozens of ravaged communities.

I am horrible at breaking up with people. (I mean really, really bad at it.) One thing I know about myself is that I am a people pleaser—I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. I would much rather be the offended one, the broken-hearted one, the one to take the blame, the one who feels rejected, the one who says sorry first (even if it wasn’t my fault). Sure, I don’t want to feel any of those things. But I would rather it be me than be the person responsible for making anyone else feel that way.
