It’s July 24, Pioneer Day, a state holiday in Utah. It marks the 166th anniversary of the arrival of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon settlers in Salt Lake Valley. Pushed out of Illinois and Missouri by suspicious locals, the group of 1,600 pioneers established a new colony in an inhospitable region of mountainous scrublands. To survive, the pioneers had to show resourcefulness and determination that would withstand the elements – the dry, dusty summers, and the frigid winters, when lakes turn into ice cubes.

A group of angry residents from Queens took a bus to Downtown Manhattan today to protest a Mormon Church moving to their neighborhood. "They want to build a structure that's twice the size than they allow," said Tyler Cassell, of Community Board 7.
"It felt like having a baby flipped my world upside down. And that's when the darkness really hit me," Lindsay shares. After having thoughts that began to scare her, Lindsay knew she needed help outside of herself. She even began worrying that the Atonement couldn't work in her life because the anxiety kept her from feeling the Savior's love. But Lindsay found a way to discover the light in her life again. "I can always look back and see the hand of God," Lindsay says.
