I confess: I was irritated. I’d had a silly squabble with my wife one morning and driven to my office in a fog of grumpiness.
The holiday “eating frenzy” is here. I hope you don’t get “BLASTed.” That’s an acronym we use in our weight loss classes to help our patients get their eating under control. Bored. Lonely. Angry. Stressed. Tired. When you are in one of those situations you are more likely to eat “stuff” you shouldn’t be eating. Junk food. It’s all over Christmas. It’s traditional. What a day. An inspiring, monumental "Day to Serve," that is. That was the sentiment of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, three governors, a mayor and thousands of volunteers Saturday, Sept. 29, when residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and the District of Columbia came together to perform nearly 750 service projects. Together, they served more than 14,000 people and collected more than 600,000 pounds of food to feed the hungry.
Lewis A. Ramsey (1873-1941) was a native of Illinois. He was baptized at age 12, soon after his family joined the Church; they almost immediately emigrated to Utah, were sealed as a family in Manti, and became wholly integrated into the LDS world. His sister Emma was a noted professional singer, and married apostle George Q. Morris.
Our prayers are with the Elder Earl Merrill Monson's family at this time.

All of us, at one point or another, have felt isolated from our friends because of our religion or isolated from the Church because of disagreements, judgments, or mistakes. At those times, we should remember Elder M. Russell Ballard's reassurance that, no matter where we are or what we are struggling with, "You belong here! You and your talents, strengths, and contributions are needed urgently in the Church."
