David Archuleta joined motivational speaker and contributing author of "Chicken Soup for the Soul" Dan Clark on a tour throughout the Middle East from July 8-25.
Recently, History Channel's popular television show Pawn Stars featured an unusual—and valuable—artifact familiar to Latter-day Saints: an 1842 fifth edition copy of The Book of Mormon. Adam, who owned the book and brought it in, explained that theological books are not often very valuable, but because of the history surrounding it, valued it at $25,000.
It’s almost Mother’s Day and chances are you might just feel like you don’t make the mark as a mom. But I’m here to tell you, the little things matter and you are making the mark a lot more than you think.
I have to admit, I’m a girl who loves princess movies. As a kid I saw every Disney princess movie ever made. But I think the recent release of Disney’s live action Cinderella is one of my favorites, because it illustrates the power in kindness, courage, work and forgiveness in this fairy tale. The dark-wooded upright was ornately carved and was her most prized possession because it had belonged to her mother. The LDS hymn, Because I Have Been Given Much, is one that has always reminded me of Grandma because she played it often when I was young and revealed to me once that it was her favorite.
My academic study of the ancient world for the last 40 years has taught me a profound lesson about modern times: Latter-day Saints ought to be the most optimistic of any group of people in history. If we truly understand God’s ultimate purpose behind all that is done in His church, optimism can’t help but seep into our souls. Let me explain.
