Official Declarations 1 & 2: Ongoing Revelation

In the very back of the Doctrine and Covenants you will find Official Declaration 1 and Official Declaration 2. Todays discussion will talk about what a declaration means and how they set the pattern for continuing revelation. As the ninth Article of Faith says: "We believe that [God] will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

Exodus 7–13 (Apr 6–12)

Exodus chapters 7–13 contain the ten plagues of Egypt. Although we won’t likely see frogs, lice, and flies infesting our livelihoods day after day, there is a lot of sorrow and disaster in the world. And it seems to affect both God’s people as well as those who aren’t following Him. But our faith grows as we learn to look for small miracles instead of focusing on the plagues.

Ruth; 1 Samuel 1–7 (June 1–7)

Ruth and Hannah were strong figures in the Old Testament who demonstrated faith and established a righteous lineage. This week we are paying special attention to what we can learn about God’s pattern of revelation in Ruth and 1 Samuel 1-7. Sometimes the Lord asks hard things, but when we know it comes from God, it makes it worth it to obey.

43: “Perfect That Which Is Lacking in Your Faith” (1 and 2 Thessalonians)

The Thessalonian Saints were known as examples “to all that believe” and news of their faith spread to cities abroad (1 Thessalonians 1:7). But Paul knew that faithfulness in the past is not sufficient for spiritual survival in the future, and he was wary of the influence of false teachers. In today’s discussion of Thessalonians, we get to read Paul’s specific messages for these Saints. Messages that can help us continue to “perfect that which is lacking in [our] faith” and to “increase more and more” in love.
