I'm impressed with the way these missionaries handle themselves. I wouldn't have the courage to be as forward as they are with people, especially the ones who just try to write them off, but they're respectfully persistent.
You might have missed what went on the last week, but we've put together our list of the week's most popular stories so you don't miss a beat. For January 5 through January 11, 2013, these are LDS Living’s top hits:
The Molinaros now refer to what happened as their “family history miracle.”
Scrolling through her e-mail inbox on a fall day in 2006, photographer Elaine Huguenin opened a new message from a potential client expecting to rattle off prices, extra travel fees and proofing policies. But this e-mail was different, and contained a question that would set in motion a series of events thrusting Huguenin and her photography business into court and the center of a new controversy.
This past Saturday, May 19th, the 174th anniversary of Joseph Smith’s arrival at the very same site, my family and I visited what our atlas refers to as a “Mormon shrine.”This was our third visit in five years, and this time in particular we found the space unusually inhospitable. As we attempted to orchestrate a family picnic, our efforts were thwarted by the unrelenting 50mph gusts blowing up off of the windspun valley. We were also stung by bees and bitten by chiggers. We ended up eating in the car, walking around for 15 minutes or so, and then driving back to our Kansas City hotel.
"Seeing how the LDS [humanitarian] model is designed and delivers consistently is exciting," said Staci Coomer of the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services. "They do it thoughtfully and well, and it's amazing to see in action. We know the LDS will be a great partner."
Though this isn’t exactly related to Mormon Mission Prep, I thought this would nevertheless be a good forum to publish a summary and highlights of official LDS Church Website traffic. As some of you may know, I work for the LDS Church and I am in charge of Web analytics for the Church. I am privy to all the official LDS sites’ Web traffic stats, and therefore people often ask me, both in my professional and personal life, for facts and figures about Church’s Web presence. For some, it’s a matter of curiosity, for others, they want to use the information in firesides, or fifth Sunday lessons, etc. Please find it below in the body of this post, or in the downloadable PDF form, and do let me know if you have any questions.
The Paris France Temple is rising as a prophecy in fulfillment.
“When you walk into this temple, you see the beauty of what can happen if you work hard and stay the course," Elder S. Gifford Nielsen said.
On Dec. 25, 1964, as Mitt Romney enjoyed his last Christmas break as a high school student in Michigan, two Mormon missionaries visited Darius Gray in Colorado Springs and asked him if he had any last questions before joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had one. A proud African American, Gray expressed wariness over a description in the Book of Mormon of a dark-skinned tribe being out of favor with God and asked, “How, in any way, does that relate to me?” The younger of the two missionaries stood off to the side as his senior companion explained, “‘Well, Brother Gray, the primary implication is that you won’t be able to hold the priesthood.’”
