To find out more about Mormons and their beliefs, Business Insider traveled to upstate New York earlier this month for the Hill Cumorah Pageant, the flagship pageant of the LDS Church, which takes place on the hill where Mormonism's founder, Joseph Smith, is believed to have found the Golden Plates that he later translated into the Book of Mormon. Despite the almost entirely Mormon cast and audience, the Hill Cumorah show, America's Witness for Christ, is actually written for non-Mormons. It amounts to a Book of Mormon 101 course, depicting pivotal scenes from the church's seminal sacred text, which Mormons believe to be a "record of God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas" and consider to be a "volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible," according to the Book of Mormon introduction.

I did something spontaneous a week ago today (Sept. 3, 2013). I am shocked how fast things can spread via social media. And even more surprised how fast the story has changed in just one week. Within 24 hours of my wife and children posting this photo, we were being told it had gone viral. Sister missionaries gain new leadership roles in missions

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is making adjustments to the way its 405 missions are organized, to better utilize the skills and abilities of all missionaries in training and leadership. The change is due in part to the influx of thousands of young missionaries who are responding to the lowering of age requirements for mission service, announced by Church President Thomas S. Monson last October. Each mission in the Church will organize a Mission Leadership Council that will include both elder (males) and sister (females) missionary leaders. The new mission leadership council will consist of the mission president and his wife, assistants to the president, zone leaders, and sister training leaders — a newly created role.

President Uchtdorf Dedicates 145th Temple

The Church’s second temple in Argentina was dedicated on Sunday, May 17, 2015. President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, presided over the services and gave the dedicatory prayer. Joining him was Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Why I'm staying: a reply to CNN's 'Why millennials are leaving the church'

As a part of the "millennial" generation, I read CNN's religion blog post "Why millennials are leaving the church" with great interest. The author explains how churches are trying to appeal to my generation through casual services, pastors in skinny jeans, and coffee shops in the meetinghouses — at the cost of teaching what constitutes the heart of Christianity. With the ongoing cultural wars, pretentiousness, and seeming exclusivity, young people my age are struggling to find Jesus when they go to church. Reading this article made me think carefully about how my faith, the Mormon church, is instituted. While I admit that our church leaders have their own struggles in retaining some who are my age, I think that the Mormon institution solves many of the problems that other millennials experience when attending church.
