Elder Jeffrey R. Holland has described a conversation he and his wife had years ago with an insightful dinner guest. The guest asked, “What is the one thing people can’t live without?” Sister Holland suggested that perhaps it was love. Elder Holland thought maybe it was faith. Their guest observed, “No, you’re both wrong. Many people in this world live without faith. And sadly, many people have to live without love. But without hope, there is no reason to go on. People cannot live without hope.”
When you have a friendship like the one that my friend Bethany and I do, it’s something you treasure. It’s a relationship that not only spans decades but that connects both cultural and physical distances with a strength that surpasses even the most securely engineered bridges.

It doesn’t take a wedding license to feed hungry Scouts or missionaries or shut-ins. Nowhere on the tithing slip do you indicate marital status as you contribute to the Church’s humanitarian service or Perpetual Education Fund. And they don’t have two doors at the temple — one for couples and one for singles. We are a Church that needs faithful workers. I’ve been blessed because I had priesthood leaders who knew this."
Once again, general conference has come and gone, and members of the Church are left with the words of prophets and apostles of the Lord who expressed key fundamentals for sharing the gospel. These fundamentals included: gaining a larger view of the plan of salvation, possessing a sound understanding of the scriptures, and sharing without a contentious spirit. In addition, authorities counseled against trying to prove the gospel’s truth; however, they urged members to work diligently to spread the message of the Restoration so it can be heard above those who misrepresent LDS beliefs.
