Becky grew up in Utah and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in elementary education. After graduating college she stayed home to raise her family but has spent many hours volunteering and substitute teaching in the schools over the years. She and her husband have been married for 22 years and they are the parents to four amazing boys. Becky enjoys spending a lot of time in her garden, growing food and flowers and enjoying God’s creations while picking weeds. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family, and doing creative things like knitting and painting (walls, furniture and art). Her favorite place to be is home.
Joe Wilson was born in American Samoa, Alao and currently lives in Laie, Hawaii. He married Melissa Meyers in the Laie, Temple and has 5 wonderful children, Miyamoto, Teylon, Cedar, Liam, Leyton, and one grandson Iosefa. After receiving a Master's in MFT Joe worked in the Mental Health field for a few years and decided to get a Life and Health Broker Insurance license. Currently he is the first American Samoa Surf Team Coach and has an incredible team ready to compete in the upcoming Olympic Games. On Sunday Joe is teaching Sunday School and any other time he loves surfing and other water sports. He is the President of the Board Directors with Koolauloa Wellness Center and really enjoys serving the community and giving back.
Debby Barney is a mom to her three beautiful kids, two boys and one girl. She has been happily married to her childhood sweetheart for 20 years and there is no one else in the world that she loves to adventure with more than her husband Jake. They enjoy doing just about everything and nothing together all at the same time. Debby and Tammy met and became good friends while serving together in the Young Women’s program in their ward. Debby has been serving in her wards Young Women for over 7 years and absolutely loves it. She feels as though it is the perfect combination of learning for her own spiritual growth and opportunity to teach and serve others. Debby has had a deep love for the scriptures since she was young and loves any opportunity she has to discuss and learn from them.
There are only two women named in the Doctrine and Covenants, but Church history is filled with stories of strong women of the Restoration. And thanks to diaries, recorded speeches, and family histories, we know many of their names. This bonus series will serve as a companion to our weekly Come, Follow Me podcast this year. And today's episode features two young sisters, without whom we wouldn't have the pages recording the early revelations of this standard work.
