Lisa West has had what she calls a “very non-traditional journey” as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but this journey has led her to unique opportunities to connect to the community and build relationships with those of other faiths. As a convert, single mom, and active volunteer in her community, West now serves as a chaplain for the law enforcement of Sacramento County—the first LDS chaplain their unit has ever had.

For far too long people of faith have seen the destruction of Sodom as merely a cautionary tale against immorality, particularly in terms of homosexual relationships. Not only does this mindset create an “us-vs-them” mentality towards LGBTQ persons, it causes us to miss the true lesson: the sins of Sodom were many, and we all have need to repent of them.
This general conference was incredible. We heard so many inspired messages and each talk was a reminder that Jesus Christ lives and this is His church. I was especially touched by the testimonies of the apostles and members of the First Presidency.
