"Reaching out to those in need doesn’t require the extraordinary, just a regular outpouring of the ordinary. To be invited, noticed, and loved are not special needs; they are everybody’s needs," a Facebook post by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints states. And the Church has put together resources that will help communities include those with disabilities that can be found at disability.ChurchofJesusChrist.org. No matter your faith, no matter your struggles, we can all do better to reach out to and love those with disabilities in our wards.
INTRODUCTION: The story of Joseph makes me think about what it really means to be free. During the early years of Joseph’s life, while he was experiencing the viciousness of murderous brothers and the solitude of slavery and the pain of imprisonment, his brothers were (1) committing murder [Genesis 34]; (2) committing immoral acts [Genesis 35, 38]; (3) plotting murder [Genesis 37]; and lying to their father [Genesis 37]. Which of all the sons of Jacob was most free? There are some lessons to be learned here. Part of the answer to this question comes as we consider who bows to whom, and who sits on a throne, and who lives with decades of guilt and remorse.
An article by a German astronomer reports that radio astronomers today discuss as a distinct possibility inter-planetary conversation between earth-bound men and creatures on other planets; he "demonstrates" with intricate mathematical logic that planets suitable for life may be fairly common among the stars, and that there are "perhaps ten civilized communities within 1,000 light years of the earth," and "there may well be creatures intelligent enough on some of those planets to transmit radio messages across the enormous distances of interstellar space."
With the World Cup in full swing, many around the world are caught up in the competition, scores, and standings. But Sister Reyna I. Aburto, second counselor in the general presidency of the Relief Society, recently shared a message on Facebook that reminds us of the unity the World Cup can bring. She also shared a miracle her husband experienced during the 1990 World Cup that teaches us that even while we may feel each game has a lasting impact, our relationship with our Heavenly Father, Savior, and families are truly the only things that will have eternal significance.
Weeks had passed since my adult daughter had moved to a new city, and each Sunday that she missed church brought me the same concerns. Would she ever return to church? I tried everything I could think of to get her there: encouragement, logic, pleading, acting as her personal alarm clock, prayer, fasting, even calling her bishop. Since we lived 2,000 miles (3,220 km) apart, it was difficult for me to attend with her, but I even tried that!
"We believe our temples to be the house of the Lord," Elder Larry Y. Wilson, executive director of temple development, told the media who gathered to tour the new Philadelphia Temple.
With 151 operating temples and 30 more under construction or announced, there are more temples for us to visit than ever before.
Manual 3; Supplement from "Christian Courage: The Price of Discipleship" by Elder Robert D. Hales
Latter-day Saints pride themselves on putting forth their very best for temples of the Lord, and one visitor took notice.
ROME — In a major capital of Christianity on Monday, all 15 apostle-leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered together for the first time outside the United States in what some called a powerful statement about the church's role as a world religion.
